We have worked with several open source, free software, and technology-related groups to identify and fund several projects over a three month period. Since its inception in 2005, the program has brought together nearly 2500 successful student participants and 2500 mentors from 98 countries worldwide, all for the love of code. Stephanie Liu of the Developer Programs team sat down with Leslie to understand the history of the program, hear some of the many success stories and find out what’s new for SoC 2009. Leslie Hawthorn is a Program Manager for Google’s Open Source Programs Office, where she’s the Community Manager for the Google Summer of Code community. She serves on the Advisory Board of the GNOME Foundation and the Open Source Business Resource, as well as the Steering Committee for the Humanitarian FOSS Project. Her personal website is www.hawthornlandings.org. This is the third episode in the “Code Conversations” video series on YouTube and Google Code (http You can view the entire series at this link: www.youtube.com

Well there you go then. I did not know that!
Thanks.
We actually do this on purpose to make the caption files more useful for training speech to text algorithms and other uses in the public domain. You can find the caption files for all our developer videos under the google-video-captions project on Google Code. These files are as exact a record as possible of the actual audio content.
Thanks for letting us know! It should be fixed now.
Great Video, If you need any help getting your video/channel exposed check out this site called Tubeviews . Net it has helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first page. Hope this helps you
you’re the best
Sittin on a park bench… just kidding. I work with microsoft technologies pretty much exclusively, but I do subscribe to this channel to see what’s going on in open source. I’ve never been part of an open source project (open source projects worldwide breath a sigh of relief) but I think this amazing. The daily grind of being professional programmer is good for paying some bills, but open source development makes you guys stronger developers. In short I’m jealous.
I completely agree with Leslie on how each student that completes the program is a success story himself. And it sure feels great to have been mentioned in the video! Thank you so much, Leslie!
Hi, mom! o/
The correct name of the Melange Project Lead is Paweł Sołyga and not Phil Valsuea ^_^. See 11:19 for transcription fail

it must have been a “code-head” who was doing the transcription; they just typed every single sound they heard. what a neard
8:12 also the “I-I-I”
I love you Leslie Hawthorn !!!!

Hey transcriber, it’s not necessary to write down the word “uh,” okay?
